Swiss Pear:  Pryus communis

Swiss Pear: A great multi-purpose wood useful for all aspects of model ship building.  A light pink to reddish brown, it provides great contrast to lighter colored woods enabling the builder to "paint with wood".  Swiss Pear is steamed when harvested to produce the desired color.  Care must be taken when working this wood, as it is prone to burning on dull equipment.

Origin: Central and Eastern Europe

Species: Pyrus communis
